My New Suburban Organic Veggie Garden

Three years ago I changed the layout of my original veggie garden, turning it into 3 rectangular beds, using over 120 cinder blocks (one cinder block weighs 30 lbs. so it was a really good workout for me…:-)
I was pretty happy with my new garden, until this year after reading an article about cinder blocks, and finding a lot of conflicting information about Fly Ash used in concrete production.  I contacted the concrete manufacturer and was reassured that they use only .35% of fly ash, which is quite safe and nothing to worry about.

Coronavirus – Cover Your Faces In Public Places

None of us would have ever imagined in our wildest dreams, the velocity of the coronavirus pandemic.

Unfortunately it is real, it here and everywhere, and we are dealing with it the best we know how.
While sewing these masks and dealing with the stress of our son’s illness, I was thinking about the purpose of my masks, which inspired me to compose a short poem and to share it with all of you today.

No Sew Bandanna Face Mask

My previous post demonstrated a process of sewing a face mask at home with a layer of non-woven interfacing material to serve as a filter for additional protection.
Today I am posting a step-by-step picture tutorial for making a NO SEW mask using a bandanna.

Face Masks Suburbangrandma Style

This is an updated version of this post, due to minor adjustments made to the original design of this face mask.
Suburbangrandma switched gears from cooking and baking to face mask making!

“The CDC has declared that in a time of crisis as we are in now, handmade masks are acceptable and can provide healthcare workers with an additional layer of protection, saving their low supply surgical grade mask inventory.  They are also utilizing these masks with those in the hospitals to help slow the spread to the other healthcare professionals” – quote from the President and CEO of Joann Fabric Corp.

St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church

Today I will share a few pictures of the beautiful Christmas decorations in my church; St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Wilmington, Delaware.  It is an Eastern Rite church, with rich Ukrainian culture and beautifully sung liturgy.

We follow the Julian calendar, hence Christmas Day is celebrated on December 25th.  However, Christmas Eve is very special in Ukrainian culture, as well as in Polish culture, as at the sight of the first star the Christmas celebration begins with a 12 course meatless supper, followed by a midnight Liturgy to celebrate the birth of Christ.
