Hi Julie,
Thanks for the compliment. I really enjoy making punch art and I made these when I first started paper-crafting.
I didn’t have a die cutting machine at the time, but you could probably modify the proportions for any size face you would like. These are what I used…
*Heads: I used a scallop circle punch. The one used here is a 1 1/4″ scallop circle punch from paper shapers (Joann Fabrics). I also tried the Stampin Up scallop circle punch with this (same size circle), but preferred the smaller scallops that the Paper Shapers punch created.
*Eyes, Elmo’s Nose, and Oscar’s tongue: 1/2″ circle punch
*Eye Pupils: 1/4″ circle punch (standard school supply punch)
*Elmo and Cookie’s mouths: 1″ circle punch cut so that I could use the
smaller piece for Elmo and the bigger piece for Cookie Monster
*Oscar’s mouth & eyebrows: 1 1/4″ circle punch. I used about 1/4 of the circle, so you can get 2 mouths out of 1 circle. I used snippets of the remaining bit of circle for his eyebrows.
*Cookie’s cookie: 3/4″ circle punch
*Big Bird’s Beak: Fiskar’s oval squeeze punch trimmed to fit and folded. There is also a small pink freehand triangle glued inside for his “tongue”
I glued the assembled heads to short craft “popsicle-type” sticks I found at a craft store (since it was a 1st b-day, I didn’t want any toothpick injuries – plus, these were more sturdy).
I forgot to mention that the “bite” out of Cookie’s cookie was created by a scallop scissor, but you could also do this with the 1/4″ circle punch or nip a tiny piece off with the scallop circle punch. I drew in the chocolate chips with a brown marker.
