I was searching for a torte recipe for a special occasion. One that would be different from any other tortes I made before, yet not too difficult to prepare. I selected a recipe for Irene’s Torte (I modified it slightly to conform to my taste), from a Ukrainian Traditional Cookery, by Savella Stechishin. I find lots of great recipes in her cook book.
Freshly made waffles are absolutely delicious, yet so easy to make.
My memories take me back to childhood, enjoying ice cream served in a freshly made waffle cone, while walking on the boardwalk in Asbury Park, NJ…I am still savoring that taste, and the moment.
This recipe was posted on the wrapping of a Calphalon baking sheet, which I purchased for a family member.
Since there is a lot of butter and sugar in this recipe, I cut the serving pieces into cute little cubes of 2 x 2 inch….so there is less guilt for having more than one piece at a time….:-)
This mid-December wedding had a Christmas theme, and it took place in Germany (Bavaria…to be exact), with breathtaking scenery of snow covered hills and tree tops.
The Bride incorporated her Ukrainian traditions into the wedding ceremony and reception, and the Groom complimented it with his German wedding traditions.
