Easy and Delicious Barbecue Ribs – Oven Recipe

You don’t have to wait for nice outdoor weather, or even own a grill, to enjoy a delicious rack of barbecue ribs.  This recipe is very simple, and all baked in your oven.

Before I post the recipe, I would like to include a few pictures of some of the preparation steps of this dish, for your convenience.

These are all the spices I used for this recipe, but you may use your rib rub spices if you wish.

I recommend using your favorite Baby Ray’s Barbecue Sauce flavor.

Another really tasty BBQ sauce to use is the Stubb’s sauce, which I did not have on hand at this time.

This time I used the Sweet Baby Ray’s Sauce since I am not a big fan of very spicy foods.  However, on another occasion, I used Sweet’n Spicy Baby Ray’s Sauce which added an extra kick to it without being overly spicy.

I used one rack of extra meaty pork ribs for this recipe and cut them in half for easier handling.  I always peel away the membrane which covers the rib bones on the underside of the rack.  It is a very simple process (I use a sharp paring knife), as soon as you gently begin to separate the membrane from the meat at one end, you peel it off by pulling it in from one end to the other.

Some people leave the membrane on, but I like to remove it since I feel it helps the seasoning penetrate the underside of the ribs, making them tastier and more pleasant to eat.

I generously load the Rib Rub seasonings onto both sides of the ribs.

Place the seasoned ribs on a large enough piece of double layer of aluminum foil, with the meaty part up, and wrap them tightly to prevent the heat from escaping during baking.

Place them on a baking pan in a preheated oven at 275 degrees F, and bake for 2.25 hours.

If you like to serve whole baked potatoes with your ribs, you can wrap them in aluminum foil and bake them at the same time as the ribs.

However, if you want them cut your potatoes in half, then still wrap them in foil, but place them in the oven to bake during the last hour of rib baking.

Once the ribs are baked, turn off the oven.  Remove the pan from the oven and using oven mitts unfold the aluminum wrap to expose the cooked ribs, then spread the barbecue sauce over the top of the ribs.

Place them back in the oven, and broil on high for a few minutes (3-5 min), so the sauce bubbles, caramelizes, and spreads over the meat. Remove from the oven and rest for about 5 minutes before cutting up and serving.

Remove the ribs from the foil wrap onto a cutting board, cut them into serving pieces (at least 2 ribs per serving), place them on a serving platter, and enjoy.

This recipe yields 6 servings of at least 2 ribs each (there were about 14-15 ribs total).

Easy and Delicious Barbecue Ribs – Oven Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 rack of pork ribs (3-4 lbs)
  • Rib Rub:
  • 1 Tbs. Garlic Powder
  • 1 Tbs. Onion Powder
  • 1 Tbs. Paprika
  • 1 tsp. Black Pepper
  • 1 tsp. Kosher Salt
  • 1/2 tsp. Smoked Paprika
  • 1/4 tsp. Cayenne Red Pepper
  • 1 Tbs. Olive Oil

Instructions

  1. Gently remove the membrane from the underside of the rack of ribs.
  2. Prepare the rib rub by mixing all listed ingredients.
  3. Cut the rack of ribs into two equal halves.
  4. Prepare 4 large pieces of aluminum foil (2 piece section for each half of ribs, large enough to allow for folding together and rolling down at the top and sides, to form a tight package enclosing the ribs).
  5. Place the ribs in the middle of each foil with the meaty section facing up.
  6. Rub both sides of ribs with olive oil, then generously pat both sides with the prepared rib rub.
  7. Bring together both long sides of the double foil and fold it over to join, then roll it down towards the top of the meat. Repeat the process with the sides of the foil, for each section of ribs.
  8. Place the "packages" side by side on a baking sheet, and bake for 2.25 hours in a preheated oven at 275 degrees Fahrenheit.
  9. Once done, remove the pan from the oven, then by using your oven mitts, carefully open up the foil top to expose the ribs. Roll the foil down the sides of the meat, as not to make a mess by spilling the meat juices into the pan.
  10. Spread the barbecue sauce over the top of the ribs.
  11. Place the pan back into the oven, and broil on high for 3-5 minutes, until the sauce sizzles and caramelizes.
  12. Remove from the oven, let them rest for couple of minutes.
  13. Slice ribs into sections of 2 ribs each, and arrange nicely on a serving platter.
  14. Serve hot.
  15. The leftovers are great reheated, if you are lucky enough to have leftovers.
